Long ago, a demon named Mundus had ruled the world. He was strong and full of evil. Any who dared oppose him were killed easily, without mercy or regret. Humans were merely pawns to him, and demons were merely weaklings. He was neither human nor demon, or a half-demon. He was like a God, a God full of darkness. But not even power can stop the affect of humans. Sparda, a deadly demon who fought for Mundus' army, had fallen in love with humanity, and then had a change of heart. Instead of killing humans, he betrayed his kind and began killing demons. Mundus' armies fell, and finally, so did Mundus. By sacrificing his blood, and the blood of a human priestess, Sparda was able to seal Mundus and his demonic armies in Hell, where they would forever be tortured.
That story is a legend passed down over the centuries. The demons were sealed away, although there were some times that the occasional demon managed to escape Hell, they were dealt with quickly. Humanity returned to their ordinary lifestyle, and things went on. A religion soon appeared, worshiping Sparda as a God. They were called the Order of the Sword, and their worshippers soon began to grow in number, until one day an entire city was filled with them. It seemed as if Sparda had really become a God...
Just before present time, an event occured within the Order of the Sword. Their leader, the priest of sorts, had taken the power of Yamato. Sparda's sword, and then used it to bring a demonic statue to life. The statue held enough power to destroy the world, but two people finally managed to destroy the demon and the priest, saving the world from destruction. These two were Nero and Dante, two of the three sons of Sparda. These two were just some of the world's protectors, and one day soon, they may once again be called upon to face the demonic beings of Hell...
