200 years before the start of the story, the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox, the strongest of the Tailed beasts, attacked the village of Konohagakure, the Village Hidden in the Leaves. Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage and leader of Konoha at the time, sacrificed his own life to seal the demon inside his newborn son, Naruto Uzumaki, in order to protect the Hidden Leaf Village. Even though Minato had wanted Naruto to be viewed as a hero, who saved the village, the villagers could not see him beyond the monster that destroyed their homes. After Minato's death, Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage, had taken over the rule of the village once more and made a decree preventing anyone from telling Naruto about the demon within him. Though Naruto found some friends in children his age, even they came to shun him, following their parents' examples without even knowing anything about the demon fox themselves. Once Naruto was admitted into the Ninja Academy, he was befriended by his Chunin instructor, Iruka Umino. Iruka was the first person to believe in Naruto, and had eventually become a father-figure for him to look up to. theworldofnaruto.proboards.com/index.cgi (ad pic coming soon)
